Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a psychotherapy approach developed by psychologist Dr. Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s. It is primarily used to help individuals who have experienced traumatic events or distressing life experiences to process and resolve their emotional and psychological symptoms associated with those experiences.

EMDR is based on the belief that traumatic experiences can get “stuck” in the brain, leading to ongoing distress and difficulties in daily functioning. These traumatic memories can result in negative beliefs about oneself, others, and the world, as well as intense emotions and physical sensations.

EMDR has been found to be effective in treating various psychological conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), phobias, anxiety disorders, depression, and other trauma-related disorders. It is an evidence-based therapy supported by numerous studies and is recognized by organizations such as the American Psychiatric Association and the World Health Organization.

Our EMDR therapists are highly trained and have many years practicing utilizing EMDR. Feel free to contact us with and questions or concerns.
